| One Week to Go |
[Jul. 1st, 2009|01:32 pm] |
|
Next Wednesday is when I officially set off for New Zealand, and I still have so much to do... |

| Project |
[Apr. 24th, 2009|03:01 pm] |
Have official handed in my project (disseratation-ish thing), and now all that is left of University is three exams, in two weeks time.
I think I'll take the weekend off, have some fun.
But first! I have to run a game tonight.

| Nationals |
[Apr. 21st, 2009|09:00 pm] |
Had an awesome weekend down in Manchester (for the first time) for the RP student nationals. Aside from problems getting there, and slight issues with the hotel, it was really good fun. Now returning to studying and working on my report.
Still no news on Tea Hut work, which is slightly worrying. It would be really nice to have some money when I go to New Zealand. |

| Winston Churchill vs. The Moon |
[Mar. 10th, 2009|12:41 am] |
On a forum I frequent, this rather fantastic motivational poster sparked a somewhat retarded discussion between the Christians and, well, everyone else, about who's bank notes were better, America's or Britain's. I wouldn't have bothered mentioning except for the following paragraph:
"And as of now....its merely words on paper. That is it. It doesn't send a secret message of 'Follow Jesus' and it definately doesn't say 'You Must Practice Religion'. Hell, it doesn't even denote which God we trust in. There have been many, most called by the same title. No one is trying.....OK, no one intelligent is going to try and shove religion down another's throat. It just doesn'twork that way. Mind, if the only experiance you have is with THIS type www.chick.com then I am deeply sorry and I apologize on all accounts. Beyond that, the UK is far worse at the whole bias thing. Winston Churchhill VS the Moon anyone?"
(Bolded by me for comic effect.)
At the time, I enquired as to what they meant by this particular statement, but I didn't recieve a response. Now I'm not sure I want to find out - the reality is probably a lot less fantastical than the B-movie plot ideas I've been having. I'm very tempted to make a movie poster out of it.
Other news: I'm really getting to like Dollhouse, which had a bit of a lukewarm pilot in my opinion but has been getting better.
Also, look out for a long and rambling post on BSG and its awesomeness coming soon. |

| The Great Adventure |
[Feb. 7th, 2009|02:33 am] |
So I actually have some Big News to share today, for a change. I've booked a trip to New Zealand to take a little gap-half-year after I graduate. I'm doing it through BUNAC, so I've already got the flight out (with a 3-day stopover in Hong Kong) booked for the 9th of July. When I get there I'm going to be job hunting and working for a few months before taking some time to travel. Currently the plan is to head back some time in December, but that can be changed depending on how things go. My mother thinks this is a fantastic idea and has already started planning a holiday to come visit me. XD
It's crazy, exciting, scary stuff. I've never done anything like this before. With any luck, it's going to be awesome. |

| Day and Age |
[Jan. 27th, 2009|04:32 pm] |
I finally got to play with my laptop on Friday, and it's schmawesome. Have been playing Cabal which was probably a bad idea but oh well. My laptop can run games now! Hooray!
And with my new laptop I also got around to putting my iTunes back together, which meant I can listen to the new Killers album. Which I love. I was always a bit disappointed by Sam's Town which had a couple of good songs but was otherwise a bit blah, but Day & Age is great.
Other loves at the moment: BSG, CSI:NY, having Fridays off, and actually having a decent sleeping schedule. Not sure how that last one happened. I thought it was impossible. |

| The New Laptop |
[Jan. 20th, 2009|05:01 pm] |
I left a book at home today, so I returned to pick it up at lunch time (I wasn't originally planning on coming back) only to discover that my new laptop had arrived. Surprise! Joy! Elation! None of these things lasted long, as I soon discovered they'd sent a European power cable.
I feel alarming drained by the whole experience. All I wanted was a new laptop. Why does that have to be so hard? |

| BSG... |
[Jan. 17th, 2009|08:49 pm] |
...God, I love that show. I don't even think I can really form coherent sentances about it. So I shan't!
I've just been checking out my schedule and stuff for the upcoming semester...and it's quite awesome really. Only one 9am start, and for the first time ever (!) I get a day off - and it's Friday! Hooray for three-day weekends!
Additionally, I've finally been given the project I've to do for this semester (our version of a dissertation) and I happened to get, in my opinion, one of the best topics to choose from. It's called "The $25,000,000,000 Eigenvector" and is about the maths behind Google. And do you know the first thing I did on getting the title was? I looked it up on Google. |

| Just THE WAY you like it. |
[Jan. 15th, 2009|04:52 am] |
Having fallen into a truly terribly sleeping schedule, I have decided that the best way to fix it is to pull an all-nighter. Mmmm, sleep deprivation.
To pass the time (still lacking my new laptop) I have been watching movies. What movies? Well, I started off with Equilibrium, which I had been talking about with my friends earlier this evening. Then I decided to watch Event Horizon for some creepy sci-fi goodness. Now, as I type this, I have just put on the wonderfully terrible Ghosts of Mars.
After that, was thinking about watching the last couple of episodes of BSG, in time for new episodes this week - which I am getting rather excited about. Although it does mean the end of Sanctuary, which was really beginning to get great. Oh, and Atlantis, but I've always felt a bit 'meh' about that anyway.
Mostly just rambling now. *nod nod* |

| Happy New Year! |
[Jan. 13th, 2009|07:13 pm] |
Yeah, I should probably have posted that sooner. Oh well.
I was very annoyed that my old laptop stopped working just before christmas. It was refusing to charge up, so I figured there was just a problem with the cable, but I took it into a shop to make sure. They said it was likely the laptop itself and it would cost £70 to fix. Considering I was just about to get another one I wasn't going to pay that much for it, but they said they'd fix it and if I didn't want to pay for it, they'd buy the laptop off of me. So, about three weeks later they phone me up and tell me...it was just the cable, after all. *facepalm*
It was annoying not to have it over Christmas.
I'm also slightly annoyed because I 've ordered my new laptop and it was supposed to arrive today, so I stayed in waiting for it, and it never came. Here's hoping it arrives tomorrow.
Just letting you all know I'm still alive, I guess. |

| Mmmm, Maths Report |
[Nov. 20th, 2008|06:15 pm] |
I am mid-write up of my first maths report and getting incredibly frustrated. Not with the maths. No, I am getting frustrated with the fact that the report deals with a variable i which can in no way, shape, or form be called I, and yet every single time I type i the word processor automatically corrects it.
DO. NOT. WANT. |

| Halloween |
[Nov. 3rd, 2008|09:40 am] |
Blargh, fencing competition makes me ti-ored. We didn't do great, but we didn't fail abysmally either (whcih I was expecting), so it wasn't too bad. Although I do have a bit of a sore leg now.
Halloween was fun, spent the actual night gaming and eating a toffee covered scorpion (in the hopes that it would grant me superpowers) and then the bus broke down on the way home and it's all The Who's fault. Or possibly it's just my Halloween curse - twice before I've had serious problems getting home from Dundee on Halloween. So it might just have been that.
Then I was up early for the fencing competition, and decided just to wear most of my Halloween costume there so I didn't have to return home for it in the evening. I was just going as a member of SG-1 anyway, and the only distinctly out of place part of the costume was the jacket, which had the appropriate badges on it. The party was muchos fun, and I was just a bit annoyed at having to leave a early to get the bus home.
Yesterday was just more fencing competition, then chilling out at home in the evening, watched a couple of scary movies and went to bed early.
I've got a test in about four hours that I probably should have been revising for but I was just too knackered. I should definitely be revising for it now though, so that's what I'm going to do. |

| The Freeservers Saga...Continues! |
[Oct. 27th, 2008|03:38 pm] |
Oh my god the University computers are sooooo slooooow recently. And half the time they're not even loading up properly! It's shocking.
And then I find myself writing this twice, because it totally crashed the first time!
Anyway. It looks like Freeservers might have finally pulled their heads out of their asses for long enough to give me my site back. Woohoo! It only took them three months!
I mostly just want to get the forums backed up and transferred to the new ones, but they haven't finished fixing things yet because I've just got a basic account and that means no php, whcih means...no forums. Argh. But with any luck it should be working again within 24-72 hours, or so they tell me.
I care so little about all this anymore that once the forums are moved over it's just going to be run as a redirect page. I've got a much shinier server with other people now, and nothing really to do with the remaining four months of hosting on the freeservers one.
And in entirely unrelated news, Jensen Ackles might just be the most awesome person in the universe. |

| Fencing |
[Oct. 26th, 2008|12:24 am] |
My expression on seeing Lauren Lee Smith's name in the credits of CSI ---> oO
I'd heard she was joining, but that was a while ago and I'd managed to completely forget.
Anyway, in other news, I've gone back to fencing! Yay! I've finally managed to find a free night when it's on, so I've been back for a couple of weeks now. And they've already talked me into going to a competition, which is something I didn't particularly want to do. I only agreed because it's actually being held in Dundee and doesn't involve travelling further.
But what I didn't realise when I agreed to go was that 1) it's a full weekend, not just the saturday, and 2) it's NEXT weekend...as in Halloween. I've already said I'm going to a party on the Saturday night. *facepalm*
So I'm going to be getting up early on the saturday (and bearing in mind that the past couple of weeks I've been so tired by the weekend I've slept almost a full 12 hours when I've finally gotten the chance), going to a fencing competition (when I've barely been back for a month), going straight home to shower, change, and go back into Dundee for the party, prob get home at midnight and be up early the next morning for yet another day of fencing competition! Mmmm, sleep deprivation.
Oh what fun. |

| Stealth Umbrella |
[Oct. 20th, 2008|10:28 am] |
It was pretty crappy weather this morning when I was going for the bus, so I finally got to test out my uber awesome umbrella! It's made with the same technology as stealth fighter planes and so has been specially designed to withstand winds of up to 100mph. And it works. It's a bit of an odd shape, almost kite-like as opposed to a rough hexagon, but it just makes it look more cool.
Also, it makes me invisible. |
